the project

Anderson Valley Elementary School Play Structure Project.

Anderson Valley Elementary School is located approximately 150 miles north of San Francisco. Nestled in rolling hills, Anderson Valley is a unique, beautiful and rural valley, accessible only by a winding two-lane country highway. Located in Boonville, California it is the only elementary school in Anderson Valley Unified School District. The school serves 269 students grades K-6. where 82% of the children qualify as socioeconomically disadvantaged and 77% are classified as English Learners.

We are seeking funding for this project because Anderson Valley Elementary has been without a play structure for the entire 2019-2020 school year. Because the existing 20-year old play structure consists of broken pieces which are unsafe and dangerous for children, our only option is a full replacement. Due to drastic cuts in the State of California school budget, donations are the only hope we have of giving our students the gift of play this coming year.

the steps

The time frame for initiation and compeltion is Winter 2020.

1. Anderson Valley Unified School District (AVUSD) has created a plan to fund a play structure for the coming school year.

2. AVUSD has researched and chosen the company for purcahsing the structure.

3.. AVUSD is working wth the district Development Consultant to identify grants and charitable foundations.

5. AVUSD is working with local businesses and private donors to make this project successful.

why we're doing it

Play is the key to physical, mental, intellectual and social well-being of children. It impacts hugely on almost every developmental aspect of children's lives holistically and in multifaceted ways. For many children, school play time is the most active part of their day. Therefore, school playground and school playtime are vitally important to children for their fun and relaxation as well as for their good health and well-being. Our children need to play.
