the project

This is the third year of tree plantings in Willimantic! We have already successfully planted over 300 trees throughout town, and had a big impact, creating more green space, with all its benefits! Now we're looking to continue this work and plant an additional 100 trees in new areas of town which have lost their trees. We will be working with the town of Windham and local residents to find sites for every new tree, and will plant them at no charge to homeowners!

Trees and green space are a vital part of our communities. They create cleaner, cooler air, beauty, native habitats for creatures, higher home values, lower vandalism, and a place for people to congregate and come together. One tree at a time we are creating green havens in Willimantic!

Donations to our project will be matched automatically by making a donation to this fundraising page. If you prefer to make a check donation, please follow these instructions to have your check donation matched. Thank you for your support!

the steps

  • Publicize the project through written articles, radio talk shows, and appearances at civic gartherings.
  • Canvas neighborhoods to measure need for tree cover and residents' interest in new trees
  • Work with commercial tree companies to help prepare sites for planting
  • Work with an arborist to choose appropriate trees at each site
  • Continue to collaborate with Public Works to prepare the sites and plant trees!

why we're doing it

Willimantic is a wonderful place to live for many reasons, but it is old, and somewhat decrepit. We want to give the city a face lift and a morale boost that the entire community can benefit from. These trees will do just that! This project crosses all demographics. Anyone is eligible to participate, and homeowners will receive trees at no charge to them.

Beyond the immediate benefits to local residents, trees are also a vital part of our world's ecosystem and play a HUGE role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This is one of the easiest, most impactful ways, and long-lasting ways in which individuals can reduce their carbon footprint. By contributing to this project you will be creating a better and more beautiful Willimantic, improving people's lives, and saving the planet!

updates

Prefer to make a check donation? Follow these steps and your donation will be matched!

If you'd rather not give online or don't have quick access to the internet, you may give by check by following the simple steps outlined below. Following the direction below will ensure that your donation is added to our project and that it is matched by the Sustainable Connecticut match challenge! Please also review the important things to know about check donations and processing time at the very bottom of this post.  Please note that ioby does not process cash donations to campaigns.

Follow these 4 simple steps to give by check & to have your donation matched:

  1. Write a check to ioby with the preferred donation amount and list our campaign name, 325 Trees, on the memo so that they know where to apply the funds.

  2. Tell ioby where to email your tax receipt. Please include a note with your check telling ioby where you'd like them to email your tax receipt. The note should include your name, email address, and phone number.

  3. Send the check to ioby at this address:
              ioby
              PO Box 4668 #74253
              New York, NY, 10163-4668

  4. Tell ioby how to share your donor name with us. ioby will list your donation publicly as Anonymous unless you tell them otherwise. This is to protect your private and personal information. If you would like to share your name, your business name, or your family name with us, to be personally acknowledged, please include a note with something to the effect of: "Please publicly acknowledge my donation from [Your Preferred Donor Name]". This is the name they will share with us and it does not impact your tax receipt acknowledgement.

Review these 3 important things to know from ioby about your check donation for an ioby project:

  • Checks take time to process. Please note that with mailing and processing time, check donations for projects may take up to 2 weeks to be reflected on a project's fundraising page. Sometimes this process is faster but don't be alarmed or surprised if the donation takes a little extra time to show up on the project page.
  • If a check is mailed to any other ioby address, instead of the P.O. Box mailing address above, the processing time will increase. Do not mail project donations to an ioby office address. We have strict financial processes in place to ensure the financial information of donors is kept secure. Due to these important financial processes, mailing a check to another address will delay, rather than speed up, the check's processing time.
  • Be aware of express delivery options to a P.O. Box. If you or your donors intend to express mail a check to the P.O. Box above, please check with the mailing service to verify if they are able to express deliver to a P.O. Box as there may be restrictions based on the service provider (i.e. USPS vs. Fedex).
  • Your privacy is important. When you give by check, ioby will add your donation to the project that you specify and publicly indicate your donation as Anonymous. The project leader will see your donor name as Anonymous. If you would like to share your name, your business name, or your family name with the project leader to be personally acknowledged, please include a note with something to the effect of: "Please publicly acknowledge my donation from [Your Preferred Donor Name]". This acknowledgment does not impact your tax receipt.
