We are a coalition of community volunteers and non-profit community based organizations that have been meeting since November 2012 to develop the Food Hub, Fund and Trust components of the Food Commons in a 22 neighborhood area of southwest Atlanta that we have designated as the Fertile Crescent. The USDA designates over half of this Fertile Crescent area as a food desert. Our goal is to improve our access to fresh, local food while creating new economic opportunities in our neighborhoods.
Current partner organizations include The Food Commons national office, Atlanta Food and Farm LLC (the lead development partner), ECO-Action Inc, (our fiscal sponsor), Annie E. Casey Foundation, Choice Neighborhoods Atlanta, Historic Westside Gardens, The Pentorship Program, Pittsburgh Community Improvement Association Inc, Slow Food Atlanta, Urban Collage and a host of others.
