the project

This session is an empowering and transformative initiative that aims to bring together Black and Brown community healers and Solidarity Economy Youth Council members to foster healing and resilience within a historically marginalized neighborhood. This project recognizes the importance of addressing trauma and promoting well-being among Black and Brown residents, particularly the youth, by introducing them to various healing practices and empowering them to become healers within their community.

Project Goals:

Youth Empowerment: Empower Youth Council members aged 14-24 to become active agents of healing within their neighborhood and beyond.

Community Healing: Create a supportive and nurturing environment in historically Black neighborhoods to address the impacts of trauma and promote overall well-being.

Inter-generational Connection: Foster a sense of connection and trust between community healers and Youth Council members, allowing for the transfer of healing knowledge and practices.

Holistic Well-being: Introduce participants to diverse healing modalities that encompass physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of well-being.

Sustainable Healing Practices: Encourage Youth Council members to continue practicing and sharing healing techniques with their families, friends, and the broader community.

We aspire to create a ripple effect of healing, building a stronger and more connected community that supports the well-being of  Black, Brown, and Indigenous members for years to come. Through the dedication of community healers and the enthusiasm of the Youth Council members, this project will sow the seeds of positive change, nurturing a healthier and more vibrant neighborhood

the steps

Project Components:

Healer-Youth Council Pairing: Community healers, experienced in various healing practices, will be paired with Youth Council members based on their interests and preferences. Each pair will work together throughout the project duration.

Healing Workshops: The project will host a series of healing workshops led by community healers, introducing participants to modalities such as meditation, yoga, sound bowl therapy, art therapy, mindfulness, and traditional healing practices rooted in their cultural heritage.

Skill Transfer and Mentorship: Community healers will share their knowledge and techniques with their assigned youth council member, providing mentorship to inspire and equip them to practice healing independently.

Long-term Impact: The project will establish a framework to sustain the healing practices within the community, encouraging ongoing engagement and promoting inter-generational healing.

why we're doing it

It's simple. Our community needs healing, most of all, our children deserve healing. This session embodies a profound commitment to addressing historical and contemporary challenges faced by the Black, Brown, and Indigenous members of our community. By bringing together community healers and Youth Council members, this initiative plants the seeds of lasting transformation and positive change. The session's ripple effect of healing not only nurtures individual well-being but also fosters a sense of interconnectedness that extends across generations.
