Being away from our home islands is hard enough, but the possibility of losing our cultures and customs is just too much to bear. Teaching our younger generations our way of life by involving them in community events and having them learn our traditional dances and native songs will help them have a sense of identity and confidence as Pacific Islanders, as Marshallese!
With the funds that will be raised, we shall be able to put together a week of festivities filled with traditional Marshallese food, dancing competitions and entertainments. During this year's Labor Day weekend (9-3-22 to 9-5-22) and the ensuing days, a series of dance competition and battle of the bands will take place, as well as sporting events for all ages. Prizes will go to the top performers and winners of the events.
The Marshallese way of life is to love one another, no matter who you are or where you are from. We hope to spread this love not just to the Marshallese folks, but to the entire Sacramento family. Through our Cultural songs and dances, we hope that the message of "Love One Another" will flow like the Sacramento River and reach all the hearts and souls out there, reminding each and every one of us that we are all in this together, as Humans.
