the project

Imagine caregivers and their children smiling and bonding while painting a blank canvas together. See them move joyfully as they interpret their art through guided creative movement in a caregivers and kids art and wellness event.

Now visualize youths and young adults from different Sacramento dance groups coming together to perform in an uplifting-themed performing arts show! In preparation for this collaborative show, the dancers discovered how to connect their minds with the movements and express themselves confidently and clearly through dance. They made new friends as they created a dance piece together. While waiting to practice their individual group performances on stage, they hang out with friends both new and old at the YOU-nity day party. At this day party, the 12 and younger dancers get to showcase their themed dance performances for their families. There is music playing, food being served, and community resources being shared. This is the YOU-nity Arts and Wellness Festival!

How much fun would Sacramento dancers and families  have at a skate night and dance showcase. Where the theme of the YOU-nity Arts and Wellness Festival will be revealed! Imagine the feelings of awe that move through the guest as they enter the skating ring and see the surprise theme revealed!

These are the YOU-nifying experience that we seek to create at the YOU-nity Art and Wellness Experience for Caregivers and Kids, The YOU-nity Skate night and Dance Showcase, and YOU-nity Art and Wellness Festival. You can join and/or contribute to these events as participant, volunteer, or sponsor!

why we're doing it

R.O.Y.A.L. Dancers’ goal is to empower our community to be Resilient, Optimistic, You-nique, Authentic, and Loving/Loved, R.O.Y.A.L..  Adverse experiences challenges our community to feel R.O.Y.A.L.. Time spent in isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic has caused many of our community members, especially our youth, to experience feelings of anxiety and depression. Prior to the pandemic, many of our youth were victims of adverse experiences. All of which poses an threat to mental health and wellness.

Without intervention, mental health problems in our youth may lead to other health and behavioral risks such as an increased risk of drug use, experiencing violence, and increased risk of sexual behaviors. (Coronavirus Disease 2019, n.d.)

Our youth need to feel connected, happy, and at peace. Research has connected adolescent happiness with positive family relationships, being extraverted and social, and having a best friend. (Youth Statistics: Health, n.d.) Additionally, “studies have shown that people who feel well-connected and supported by others have lower rates of anxiety and depression, whereas those who do not have social connections are at higher risk for suicide, low self-esteem, and antisocial behaviors” (Cognitive Behavior Institute, 2022)

R.O.Y.A.L Dancers desires for the youth of our community to live well and be happy. The You-nity events aim to create opportunities for our youth to connect with themselves, their families, and each other while enjoying the arts. They empower our community, with a focus on the youths, to be R.O.Y.A.L.
