About the project
We want to have a 3-day women's theatre festival to celebrate women in theatre and see works written by or directed by or about women. We want to have an award presentation for women who have devoted their lives to theatre whether it be a volunteer, actress, director, manager, dancer, opera vocalist, scenic designer or costumer, or philanthropist. We want the festival to take place in 4 venues in the Overton Square Midtown Theatre District August 7-9, 2014. We want to have workshops and seminars in dance, theatre and entrepreneurship in the theatre industry. A community of women artists from Tennessee, Virginia, New Jersey, California, Missouri and even Australia have galvanized to make this festival possible.
We need to pay for the 4 venues and hosting for this 3-day event. The four venues are: Playhouse on the Square, The Circuit Playhouse, TheatreWorks and Hattiloo Theatre.

Why we‘re doing it
Despite the strides that have been made in other fields, women continue to face enormous employment challenges in the arts. We believe that the Women's Theatre Festival of Memphis (WTFM) will play a significant role in increasing the ability of women to share more of the financial benefits from the theatre industry which will improve economic conditions for women and their children. It is our belief that the business of theatre holds viable opportunities for both employment and entrepreneurial endeavors for women.
