Originally founded in 1970, West Chazy Recreation Park has been through many rough upstate New York winters and needs some TLC. We need your help to revitalize current amenities and add new ones.
West Chazy Recreation Park is committed to providing a people focused park and our space is equipped with a pavilion for family gatherings, restrooms, basketball/tennis courts, playground equipment, ball fields and hosts youth sports. But the condition of existing infrastructure and playground equipment is extremely poor and has been identified as a safety hazard. This is where you come in -- it's as easy as 1-2-3!
1. Your donation will go towards:
- Installing new ADA compliant playground equipment
- Refurbishing the restrooms
- Resurfacing the tennis and basketball courts
- Installing an multi-season walking path
2. With your help, our project will postivitely impact the health of West Chazy residents and:
- Help to reduce student and adult obesity rates of 37.3% and 64%, respectively*, in our county
- Provide an inclusive park space for residents of all ages and abilities
- Enabling everyone to be active in a safe environment right in their back yards
- Foster active lifestyles in our residents and reduce incidences of chronic disease
- Build a happier and healthier community
3. Your donation will be matched. The first $10,000 will be matched by the New York State Health Foundation's matching grant challenge!

During our fundraiser, we'll be hosting events and other activities to engage our community around this effort. Check out news, events and updates here!
After we've raised these funds, we'll be able to:
- Install ADA compliant playground equipment
- Resurface basketball and tennis courts
- Create 3/4 mile multi-use trail around the perimeter of the park
- Install security system
- Refurbish two restrooms

Clinton County Statistics
- 64% of adults are overweight or obese*
- 37.3% of students iare obese*
- 45% of residents sometimes or often have difficulty getting to a store to buy food**
Active lifestyles for West Chazy Residents
We know that transportation can be a barrier for our residents and since this park is the only recreation space available in the village we want to make it the best it can be. Due to its current condition, the space is extremely underutilized, leaving our residents sedentary. Revitalizing the park and its equipment will enable residents of all ages and abilities to be active in a safe environment right in their back yards. Fostering active lifestyles in our residents will lead to fewer incidences of chronic disease leaving us with a happier and healthier community.
The West Chazy Recreation Park Revitalization Committee
Our committee was formed in November 2017 to organize and implement sustainable built environment changes that will positively impact the health of our residents. Our overarching goal is to create and foster a multi-age, multi-season, inclusive recreation park where residents and visitors can exercise as a family in a safe, healthy environment.
Complete Streets Resolution
The West Chazy Recreation Park, established in 1970, is centrally located in the village, directly behind the Volunteer Fire Department, adjacent to the U.S. Post Office and a short walk from the library. Sidewalks allow residents to safely walk, bike or roll to the park and the Town of Chazy is pursuing the adoption of a Complete Streets Resolution to ensure that the safety of our roadways, sidewalks and residents are in the forefront of all future projects.
