About the project

Partnering with St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral and The Medical District Collective, Constance Abbey is more than halfway toward funding a Water Plaza to provide a safe place for those in need of  a place to wash their face and hands and refill their water bottle.

Located at the intersection of Alabama Ave. and Hamlin Pl., halfway between Le Bonheur and St Jude. All funds received from ioby will be used to pay for the actual concrete construction of the new 60-foot sidewalk and the plaza a 16-foot circle with 4 bollards.

The Steps

    1. Gained permission and support from St, Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral Vestry for its contribution of land and water use.
    2. Located existing water line.
    3. Ordered received locally manufactured plumbing fixture.
    4. Commissioned upgraded landscape design.
    5. Requested and received bids for the upgraded plan.
    6. Once funding is in place the contractor can complete the work in 2 weeks.

Why we‘re doing it

There is an acute need for a public water source in the St Mary’s neighborhood. The current pandemic has intensified the need for our Neighbors to have a consistent source of our most fundamental commodity. Constance Abbey is a ministry serving the unsheltered community around St Mary’s Cathedral. We are a 501 C3 nonprofit organization located at 209 Hamlin since 2013.
