About the project
This project is one of many that are taking place across the country with the help of the Walk [Your City] online platform. This tool allows advocates for active transportation to design their own wayfinding signage with a consistent branding and durable material. The signs provide a unique flair to the walking environment of the city, showing the travel time and direction to points of interest. Ten signs have already been designed and are available to preview, with mounting locations and final designs available. We need to raise $20 per sign plus shipping and fees, with any additional funds allowing more signs to be added.

The Steps
1. Create signs on the Walk [Your City] online tool (complete)
2. Fundraise for a minimum of 10 designed signs, plus 5 more to be chosen, with more possible with funds raised beyond goal (now through September 4)
3. Order and ship signs (week of September 4)
4. Receive and mount signs in planned locations (week of September 18)
5. Unveil at the September Third Thursday (September 21)
Why we‘re doing it
This project is intended to complement the healthy initiatives already up and running through the City of Pittsfield. Signed urban trails like the Downtown and Morningside walking loops are great for regular workouts and recreation, and the Walk [Pittsfield] wayfinding will help to encourage walking to reach a destination or accomplish a task, whether that be getting a lightbulb at the hardware store, visiting the park, or going to a movie. For the dense neighborhoods around a half-mile radius of downtown (and the growing population living in downtown), there are many destinations reachable without needing to drive, and sometimes it only takes some wayfinding and encouragement to reach them.
