The URBANesque Marketplace - The Hibiscus Honeybee Habitat

Detroiters need some natural healing from the good Earth, so I'm transforming a vacant intercity lot into Habitat retreat, an outdoor classroom, for pollinators and people to cohabitant in the habitat.

About the project

When I Enrolled into Culinary School, many people wondered why?  I'm known as more of a "health-nut" than a "foodie."  I believe that healthy foods don't have to taste..healthy. They can have great flavor...many added by the careful selection and addition of herbs and spices.  I love using herbs and spices in all of my cooking, specially the one with a health value.  Your foods should heal your body in some way.

I am raising funds to transform a Detroit vacant lot into a peaceful place for plants that naturally heal the body. I like to live healthy.  Edible plants are placed on Earth for a reason.  We need to get back to the natural. This garden habitat will feature an assortment healing herbs, HIbiscus plants, and bee-keeping.  Experts will also give tours, conduct cooking workshops and teach visitors about the health benifits of each plant and how it works with our systems.

P.S. - Look forward to Tea tastings with our harvested honey in the summer of 2020.

The Steps

Step 1. Layout and build the water retention element

Step 2. Dirt to fill the raised flower beds.

Step 3. Purchase Garden equipment & plants

Step 4. Purchase Solar security panels and lights

If more money is raised I would like to:

a. Extend and repair the existing fence to keep out stray dogs and prevent illegal dumping.

b. Purchase Bee Keeping supplies and equipment

Why we‘re doing it

I am a trained Chef who grew up growing my own fruits and vegetables.  I currently have a cooking show in Public Access Television called URBANesque Living with Tish Tansil, where I demonstrate how to cook with everyday foods.  My Grandma use to can and preserve her own foods for the winter.  Looking back, she could have started a home business.  Looking forward, many people in my community can now start a home business..I would like to extend my blessing to help others.. to help themselves...grow their own food, turn them into to products, and bring health and wealth into my community.
