the project
OUR GOAL is to make the wheels move on organizing a bike club to promote safe travels for our kids in the community in partnership with 4-H International in our parks.
Funds will make it easier for our youth to navigate through the neighborhood, learn to ride public transportation with their bikes to get around town. The pandemic has been an impediment to travel to buy goods and get services such as school lunches.
We will build a coalition to include donors, residents who have skills to rebuild and repair slightly used bicycles, and contact our local representatives.
the steps
1. Raise Funds for Bikes for Tykes;
2. Purchase Bikes and Supplies for Rodeo;
3. Distribute Bikes and Host Rodeo.
why we're doing it
We have been improving parks to provide safe green spaces for youth to play and be active. The City's Play Your Park Program provides summer jobs for teens to interact with younger park goers. They can play soccer, baseball and swim. We want this to be even more so with Safe Kids Mid south who can help with finding affordable helmets. No more barriers.
Presently, we have 30 youth in our 4-H club. Bicycle safety is one of the programs that they have as well as summer camps and employment. We want to grow; create trails and bicycle lanes along the areas on University Street, Tunica, Springdale and Hunter.
