the project

For over four years, Basketshop Gallery has been an active part of the Westwood community. We brought over 20 artists and exhibits to Cincinnati and are expanding even further than our storefront operation with TRANSMISSION. Over the past year, the pandemic taught us to integrate other forms of art including more multimedia artists. We have broadened our brick and mortar gallery walls to launch artists podcasts and other forms of virtual programming.

The inspiration for TRANSMISSION springs from the many artists / musicians who share an interest in sound design and performance. Basketshop Gallery will hold TRANSMISSION in June during Pride Month to celebrate the many contributions that Gay and Trans artists have claimed to the history of electronic music and synth-based music.

Raising donations for TRANSMISSION will help us support these artists such as Michelle McCracke, Noel Magathe, Heavy Metal Scrap Band, Kasey Short and introduce the next generation to discover a creative skill set through new techniques to express themselves. For this purpose, we have invited artist and educator Kyle E. Evans to conduct workshop classes during the event to teach students to learn the basics of circuitry and create sound signals through starter take home electronics kits. We are also teaming up with our neighbors at Game N Groove to offer another example of video and game manipulation. It is our goal to make Westwood an annual destination for electronic, experimental music and all donations would help to secure Cincinnati as a city that celebrates inclusivity and looks to the future generation to be immersed in a creative community that offers them a space to experiment with new and resourceful forms of artistic expression.

the steps

Donations will ensure that all of our artists and team will be compensated without compromising Basketshop Gallery's programming. We're hoping to reach our goal by June 13, during the event, so we can feel confident in making this an annual event for our nieghborhood in the future.

When we reach our first goal of $2000 we will know that all of the materials needed for the workshops will be available. We're hoping to offer each student a take-home breadboard circuitry kit that they learned to create in our classes.

The full goal of $4000 will assure that this project will enable us to make TRANSMISSION a staple in Cincinnati for years to come.

why we're doing it

TRANSMISSION will be a unique event that people look forward to every year. It can become a destination for Cincinnati that allows artists to share their work and feel acknowleged. TRANSMISSION is an event for marginalized communities that can celebrate their role in our culture. By giving young artists the oppotunity to learn from an experienced educator like Kyle E. Evans they will gain the resources to learn skills that will benefit them in a world that requires them to be more open-minded and familiar with technological advances.

TRANSMISSION is the passage of signals and mechanics to a receiver. It's a way to share information down the line.
