the project

My idea is to construct a lively and innovative bus shelter that will bring attention to the lack of bus shelters throughout Miami-Dade. Today, over 2,000 bus stops across the county are uncovered. Transit-dependent commuters must endure Miami’s torrential downpours and heat just to get to work or school and back. We will design and construct bus shelters at key locations using a design consistent with each neighborhood’s style, and that addresses the challenges limiting the construction of shelters, such as limited space. Each shelter will have a call-to-action for the public to submit their own design solutions.

the steps

1. Identify ideal bus stop to be enhanced by the unique shelter

2. Contract a bus sheler manufacturer to construction and instrllation of the bus shelter

3. Create an online digital charrette to allows community members to provide input and create a digital campaign around the unvailing of the shelter and charrette.

why we're doing it

We are doing this project so that people can feel comfortable and safe while waiting for their bus, while enhancing the eccentric beauty of Miami-Dade. This project will facilitate the installation of much needed shelters by tapping into the public’s breadth of expertise and creativity, and expediting the design process. It will also inform potential advertisers of the value of investing in public bus shelters. We will draw attention to the needs of transit-dependent commuters, and publicize a virtual charrette where citizens can provide feedback on the design and special amenities of future bus shelters.
