TimeBank Trips!

Unity in Our Community TimeBank is a mutual aid and community building organization in Southwest Detroit. We exchange services with each other using time instead of money. These services are often very practical, like painting a room, weeding a garden, or learning Spanish. Sometimes they are the equally important but often devalued work of building community, spending time in nature, and giving people new experiences.

Some of our most popular events over the last 13 years have been our group outdoor activities and trips. We host monthly group bike rides during the summer and organize a yearly trip to a nearby cider mill and apple orchard. Because these are such popular events we are hoping to add more this year including a kayak tour with Detroit Mobile Kayaks, a trip to a U-Pick Blueberry farm, and an end of summer party on Belle Isle Beach.

For all these activities and trips we want to be sure that we are able to cover all costs including mileage for our carpool drivers, rental/admission costs, and refreshments for everyone. This crowdfunding campaign will allow us to do that!

July-October: Continue our monthly group bike rides

July/August: Take a trip to pick blueberries!

August/September: Have a party at Belle Isle Beach

October: Go to Apple Charlies Cider Mill

Getting around the region and out into nature can be difficult for many without reliable transportation or funds. We want to be sure that all neighbors have the opportunity to enjoy fun outdoor activities!

Doing these trips together with our neighbors and fellow TimeBank members also helps to build community cohesion and solidarity across race, ethnicity, class, and age barriers.
