Once again, we are holding a series of family-friendly tree bed planting days on Miles Davis Way. Plants, tools and planting guidance will be provided. Have fun, meet your neighbors, and make the block bloom. Volunteers will also help with ongoing tree bed maintenance and watering.
In addition to beautifying our block, we are building a community where neighbors look out for each other and work to improve the quality of life. We are also serving as a model for other blocks and buildings that want to undertake similar projects. Both 365 WEA, our neigbor on the corner, and 375 WEA, the building contigious to that one, have followed our lead by expanding and protecting their tree beds, too.
We did not fundraise in 2017 as we had enough money left from our 2016 budget to largely carry us through last year. See @MDWbeautfication on Facebook and Instragram for past accomplishments.
We are sourcing a variety of tree-bed-appropriate annuals and perennials. Weather permitting, we will hold three or four Saturday and/or Sunday planting days from mid-May through early June. We may also plant some additional bulbs in the fall.
We are fortunate to live on a lovely block that has been transformed into a much lovelier block with the expansion of our tree beds and installation of tree guards in 2016. Having well-maintained green spaces is a source of pride and improves everyone’s quality of life. Moreover, by opening up and properly maintaining the tree beds, we are helping to ensure the long-term health of our block's trees.
