About the project

Help us support local art, neighborhood history and beautification in the Industrial District of Downtown Los Angeles!

Recently established in the Industrial District of Downtown Los Angeles, Teapop DTLA pairs tea with art.  We currently feature monthly artists, music and comedy performances, and community gatherings every month.  Our next grand gesture of supporting local art is with an act of neighborhood beautification. Through February, we are fundraising for a bright and uplifting large-scale art installation on the side of Teapop DTLA's building, which has high visibility traffic passing by daily. Monies raised will go toward:

  • Paint supplies
  • Lift/crane rental
  • Mural team led by Artist Erin Williams
  • An unveiling event at completion

The mural is our proactive stamp on creating vibrancy and life in an overlooked and underserved part of downtown.  We hope to engage with local community members in an effort to beautify our bleak stretch of downtown, which consists of grey-toned industrial buildings, graffiti tags, and rampant with illegal dumping of trash/waste, and incite a safer and cleaner neighborhood for residents and community members.  In partnership with non-profit organization A Move For Life, we plan to invite local officials from Downtown Neighborhood Council and the office of Councilman Jose Huizar, media organizations, schools, artists, donors, residents and businesses in the area to join our unveiling "block party" event to celebrate

The Steps

  1. Fundraise through February 24th
  2. Mural execution and documentation starts February 25th
  3. Unveiling the mural "Block Party" on March 3rd (time TBA).

If you are interested in sponsoring our unveiling event with a product or service, please email Arlene at [email protected].

Why we‘re doing it

Beautification of a neighborhood or street gives people a sense of pride and ownership over where they live, work, and gather.  There are dilapidated sidewalks in need of repair, graffiti tags, and illegal dumping of trash/waste.

As a member of the downtown community, we aim to encourage residents and tourists to support the local businesses in the booming districts of downtown. And even more importantly, we would like to garner attention and support for the Industrial District from local government and the City of LA in order to:

  • approve street lights
  • approve installation of bike racks
  • approve more art projects along Olympic Boulevard
  • draw attention to and help to repair the dilapidated sidewalks
