About the project
#SupportFrayser is a grass roots movement aimed at improving life in the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee. This project's goal is to see the construction and instillation of an attractive, eye-catching sign to welcome visitors to this great neighborhood. Frayser is home to over 50,000 residents. It has everything: great neighborhood restaurants, winning high school sports teams, and beautiful parks. It has everything but a welcome sign. That has to change now!
#SupportFrayser and the Frayser Neighborhood Council have been working diligently to place a welcome sign on Frayser Blvd. to let visitors know that they are entering a vibrant, proud, and progressive neighborhood. These groups have reached out to local politicians and received their support. They are now in the process of reaching out to local businesses and corporations, such as Nike, who have a presence in community. Indeed, there is a groundswell of support for this much-needed project. When installed, Frayser's welcome sign will be a symbol of the pride that runs deep in this great neighborhood.
The Steps
March-April, 2018: Identify fabricators to construct sign.
June-July, 2018: Develop sign and apply for permits and easements.
August, 2018: Obtain permits, oversee completion of sign.
September, 2018: Install sign on Frayser Blvd.
Why we‘re doing it
An effective welcome sign improves a neighborhood in many ways. First, it makes a great first impression on those who enter. That is, it sets a positive tone for the experience that visitors have when they visit the neighborhood. Second, it communicates neighborhood pride. It lets folks know that the community means a great deal to the people who live and work in it. Third, it enhances visitation and tourism. When travelers see a great welcome sign, they become curious about what the town has to offer and are more likely to take the time to look around and visit local businesses. Because Frayser does not have a welcome sign, it is missing out on all of these benefits. #SupportFrayser plans to remedy that!
