the project

Sew Masks 4 Cincy is hoping to raise funds to provide free sewing kits to our volunteer sewers to make mask covers for our local front line workers in the Greater Cincinnati Region.

Sew Masks 4 Cincy has one mission: to create mask covers and provide them to as many front line workers as possible. We partner with hospitals and organizations, including TriHealth, UC Health, Veterans Affairs Hospital and Medical Center, Christ Hospital, St Elizabeth Healthcare, and The Cincinnati Police Department in order to help combat the shortage of these life-saving items. First priority goes to hospitals and we have a waitlist of over a hundred front line facilities including senior living homes, hospices, homeless services, jail, oncology, longterm care facilities, and more.

Engaging all ages of our community, SM4C releases kids packets bi-weekly with indoor and outdoor (with proper social distancing) activities for families to do together! In an effort to honor our mission we also give guidance to people who want to start a "Sew Masks" organization in their city or area.

Sew Masks 4 Cincy launched at noon on March 20, 2020 as a small idea to sew mask covers for our frontline workers and quickly ballooned to 6000 people joining the effort across the entire Tri-State area within 72 hours. To date, SM4C has donated 7500 mask covers to hospitals and front line facilities. Our organization is entirely volunteer-run and incorporates anyone who has the time, skills or interest in continuing our mission.

We believe that if one life is saved, it is worth every moment.

the steps

Our organization is already creating mask covers, collecting them and donating them to local organizations. With funding we will be able to:

1. Provide free sewing kits to our volunteer sewers who have the skillset to create mask covers, but do not have the materials necessary to make them;

2. Increase the number of mask covers that we are able to produce;

3. Contribute mask covers to the organizations who have requested them, but are currently on our waitlist until we have the materials to increase production;

4. Further engage our local community to come together in this movement to protect our front line workers.

why we're doing it

Our goal is simple: we want to help save lives by providing mask covers to the front line workers who desperately need them. This is our way of helping minimize the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic by contributing to the safety of those who are fighting it. The demand is great, but so is our passion to help during this crisis.
