About the project
GrowMemphis is currently seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA member to serve as the Food Policy Coordinator for the Food Advisory Council(FAC) for Memphis and Shelby County. The Food Advisory Council for Memphis and Shelby County is a program of GrowMemphis. GrowMemphis needs an individual to coordinate through facilitation, administration, and capacity building (developing diverse funding opportunities) for the FAC. The Food Policy Coordinator will gain a complete understanding of GrowMemphis, The Food Advisory Council, and its Working Group projects to gauge specific needs, develop and expand community partnerships, secure long-term resources including funding opportunities. The FAC is leading the way in providing a model that follows a holistic community development approach, building capacity from the ground up and from the top to the bottom, meeting in the middle for the greatest impact in community policy culture change and development. Working together as a community of public administrators, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and private business owners to target food system policy barriers is an innovative solution to comprehensively address food and public health issues. The money being raised in this ioby campaign will provide funds for securing this Food Policy Coordinator position for the FAC. Additionally, the first $500 raised through this campaign will be generously matched by the Memphis Center for Food Faith. |
The Steps
Once funded, GrowMemphis will be able to hire an AmeriCorps VISTA member to carry out the responsibilities of the Food Policy Coordinator. |

This funded position will contribute to the mission of the Food Advisory Council to seek to advance policy and practice in Memphis and Shelby County that strengthen food security and the local food economy.
