the project

We will go to high schools and introduce our artists and their work to the students. The students will go home with art prints from BIPOC local artists that they host for several months.

A connection is established between artists and students from their community, as well as the whole household. Our artists include a young woman who is half Russian half African, two young Mexican Americans, a Chinese American, a young painter from South Africa, a self taught artist from the Bahamas, etc.

We experimented with this effort last year in a high school in Brooklyn, and it was hugely successful. We hope to expand the project in 2023 thanks to donations, and to Con Edison's matching grant.

the steps

April 2023: produce art prints that are foam mounted or canvas printed - these are more resilient and can be hung directly on walls, without the need for a frame.

March 2023 Contact high schools to organize visits.

May 2023-June 2023: visit high schools. Let students host the work.

September 2023- December 2023: Visit additional high school. Students who borrowed work in the spring return and the work gets hosted by other students. They can host another piece.

why we're doing it

Typically, less than 20% of the population ever visits art galleries and museums. Yet the amazing talent in NYC produces art that is often very relevant to various communities, and that is particularly the case with our artists.

It has been proven that having artworks in the home reinforces a sense of identity and social cohesion. Studies show that students perform better at school.
