Halfway There!

the project

When you have something good, what do you do with it?  Better it of course!  The Street Banner Beautification Project, as the THIRD funded project for JUICE Orange Mound, will make a positive impact in Historic Orange Mound.  In partnership with The Collective, JUICE Orange Mound, will work with local African American artists to design creative and representative banners to be installed throughout the community.

We have noticed other communities like Cooper Young and Vollintine-Evergreen showcase their pride through banners and other markers and want to show the city of Memphis that we can do it too!  We are beyond excited to beautify the community that we love and cherish and hope that you will help us raise enough funds to purchase 117 street banners for each street in Historic Orange Mound.

the steps

February:  JUICE Orange Mound will work with The Collective to create attractive designs to be used for our banners.

March: 2-4 designs will be debuted to the community via social media for input to be gathered.  After we get the greenlight from key stakeholders, off to the printer we go!

March 30th: Banner Reveal Celebration at the Orange Mound Senior Center

Late March-Early April: Join us for the installation of the beautiful street banners!  #finally

why we're doing it

JUICE Orange Mound is the homegrown funding source of Historic Orange Mound.  Quarterly we fund community-based projects to better our beloved community.  Rather than wait for others to dictate what the future of Historic Orange Mound look likes, JUICE Orange Mound empowers residents to take action now and promotes innovation and collaboration amongst key stakeholders.  We fund our projects by quarterly collection, two of which involve community canvas days!  That's right, we collect spare change and use it to make change in our community.

JUICE Orange Mound challenges the preconceived notions and stereotypes of Historic Orange Mound.  We are a community with rich history and passionate, dedicated residents.  As the first African American community in the city of Memphis, we believe that the success of Historic Orange Mound is the success of every community.  We encourage you to join our movement to develop poor people and revitalize our poor community.
