the project
Stockyards City: the birthplace of urban agriculture. Literally founded overnight, it was home to packing houses and millions of head of cattle, hogs, sheep, horses and mules for decades, as well as the folks that worked tirelessly to feed a growing nation. Though the livestock numbers have decreased over the years, that same hardworking spirit and grit still exists here today, and our residents still need to eat.
Stockyards City is truly a "city within a city". Home to two shelters, a fire station, Fraternal Order of Police, a metropolitan library, and residents that fall below the poverty line, it is time for us to provide a means to help our residents. Since Stockyards City does not have a grocery store, creating community gardens will help to eradicate hunger.
