the project

This project will address the lack of Cultural Awareness among people of color to the Lorain County communities. The project CALM was created by Jeff Pye as an art workshop for people to have the opportunity to experience the joy of painting and basic techniques. The project has served as a means to thwart to possibilities of unwarranted boredom for youth and adults since the pandemic condition that we have been currently finding ourselves under.

Adults have been inclined to find something to stimulate their needs through visual change to their home environment. This has attracted mostly mothers and single-parent families to redecorate their space with a painting or drawing to bring excitement in their home. Moreover, the excitement is even greater because they personally achieve and tap into their own creativity.

The Start w/Art also serves youth during the weekend on Saturdays mid-morning from 10 am-1 pm to come and learn basic art theories and various art projects. The young artists have grown to work together as a team and build social skills while in their workshop. They are also given snacks or lunch and are able to engage in physical activities at the center. This helps in promoting and developing youth self-esteem and leadership skills. The perimeter of the workshop allows the parents to have respite time to take care of business while they know their child is safe and in good care.

the steps

1. Fiscal Agent will deposit funds into Start w/Art program bank account.

2. Send notifications to parents of the upcoming times and dates for Saturday workshops, which will take place from January 2021 to August 2021. All students will be required to submit an application of interest.

3. Art supplies and materials for art projects and displays will be purchased.

4. Annual events, venues, schools, colleges, churches, and other platforms will be notified and eventually invite Start w/Art to display art pieces.

5. Adults and youth will focus on painting Afro and Hispanic people of influence as the theme for art displays in African and Hispanic Culture.

6. Youth will research and present artwork and exposition of their chosen person of special interest...

7. Cost of transportation to various events will be considered.

8. Youth will also maintain a portfolio of their work.

why we're doing it

The purpose of the Start w/Art is Community Art Life Matters or C.A.L.M. as an acronym. In today's unrest with racism in our world. Something must bevel the need for people to express their feelings and opinions as a rebuttal towards oppression. Through the art medium, a person can do this in a passionately form that manifests addressing racial issues through the visual senses just like music does it to the audio and imaginative sense. While doing this at the same time artist and the viewer are rendered to being CALM in the action and reaction to art. The sole purpose is to change the world and the people to live in a peaceful and CALM community. ACALM community is a fruitful and prosperous community for everyone.
