why we're doing it
Inner City Green Team (ICGT) is an environmental organization with a focus on poverty alleviation and community development. Our mission is to help protect the environment and transform the lives of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents through improved recycling, education, job training and paid work that can lead to a lifetime of employment and civic engagement. Towards that end, we are working to create an effective, replicable, and sustainable recycling infrastructure at NYCHA with job creation and community revitalization at its core.
Our effort to address food disparities in the poorest communities will support NYCHA residents who are about 46% Black and 44% Hispanic. Approximately 20% are senior citizens and 35% are single females with children under 18 years of age. This community has much higher rates of disease which include asthma, diabetes, and other underlying health conditions.
