About the project
The Step team is a group of young students, with the mission of expressing themselves through step and dance, maintaining healthy bodies and minds, and building a bond amongst the students of the school. It is composed of individuals from various backgrounds and cultures. The Sophiscleveand Steppers is a way for students to express what they feel and how they feel.
The group performs to various drum cadences influenced by the contemporary style of Hip Ho This group embodies the soulful, high-stepping style of the Historically Black College and University (HBCU) as well as the (movement) stepping choreography seated in the traditions of black Greek steppers. There aren’t any visible drill team and drum corps community based teams in the Cuyahoga county area
Our program is modeled after the Youth/ARTS Development Project. The Youth/ARTS Development Project is a comprehensive study conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the National Endowment for the Arts. Youth/ARTS focuses on the relationship of arts programs and at-risk youth.
