About the project
Snowden School’s playground and recreation fields are out of date and in need of help. The PTO’s Playground Initiative Committee has launched a campaign to improve the beauty, function and accessibility of the campus greenspace for the schools 1,500+ students ranging from pre-K to middle school. Snowden serves a large segment of Midtown Memphis families, and this project would enhance the quality of life for residents of several neighborhoods who come together at our school. We also want to preserve the designation of our campus' greenspace as a place for recreation and play.
The Steps
With input from students, administration, coaches and parents, we will use funds from this campaign to build a strategic plan for greenspace improvement by identifying needs and cultivating landscape designs to incorporate more trees, plants and green areas that will create a more attractive playground and recreation area. We will organize volunteer work days to assist in the improvements.
Why we‘re doing it
Our committee is working with students, coaches, parents, teachers, Snowden’s administration and community leaders to transform our greenspaces into areas that encourage exploration, growth, learning, and community. Students, teachers, and coaches have identified our playgrounds and fields as areas in need of improvement to fulfill our school’s educational mission of empowering students in their education, health, and personal growth.
