the project

The Sensory Friendly Dance Program welcomes everyone to participate in the power of dance! Since 2017, our programming invites neurodiverse and neurotypical community members to enjoy live dance experiences in an inclusive and welcoming environment.

With your support, this summer we will present a family-friendly performance of Peter Rabbit on August 13, 2022 at The Sofia, home of B Street Theatre. Traditional theater rules are relaxed and participants are allowed to enter and exit as needed, play with fidget toys, dance, talk, sing and express themselves as they feel comfortable. Families can enjoy quality time at the theatre without worry, and are provided an opportunity to connect with our community in a climate of acceptance and understanding. Sensory Friendly Dance is committed to make it's performances as accessible as possible to the community. In addition to keeping ticket prices at just $5 per person, Sensory Friendly Dance has offered 100 free tickets annually to families with a financial need.

Additionally, we are excited for the return of our Sensory Friendly Dance Classes for the first time since 2019! From July 26th to August 11th we will offer introductory dance classes for individuals of all ages with autism on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. These classes are designed to embrace all abilities and offer neurodiverse individuals a space to explore dance in a judgement-free zone.

Donations made to Sensory Friendly Dance this summer will support our dance class and performance programs. Thank you for helping us further our mission to make dance accessible to everyone in our community.

why we're doing it

We believe that access to the arts is fundamental and that dance is for everyone. Thanks to people like you, we are able to turn that belief into action. We want to foster an environment of inclusivity and acceptance in the performing arts and provide space for our community to connect with each other through the arts.
