About the project
Seniors Seeing History is a wonderful opportunity for the elders in inner-city communities to visit the African American Museum of History and Culture. Some of these seniors have participated in the Civil Rights movement and are still actively pursuing individual and social issues. Taking them to the museum will bring to life ( and come fuill circle for some) the 'big picture' of the culture that is definitely African American.
The Steps
- Identify a date
- Secure transportation
- Search hotel costs
- Estimate fees (tolls, parking)
- Make museum reservations
Why we‘re doing it
This is a rare opportunity in that the participants live in communities that have survived the riots and are now suffering from lack of economic development. This trip will give many of them hope that their efforts were not wasted. It will also stimulate discussions and conversations for their grandchildren and great grandchildren, many of whom they are raising and/or supporting. This will be a vacation for some, a time of sharing and comparing for many, and a cultural connection for all.
