About the project
ParkENT Cycles just wants to “hug” your bicycle and keep it safe. We are developing an outdoor electronic bicycle rack that locks the wheel and frame of your bicycle. Called the “bicycle parking space”, it provides secure bicycle parking infrastructure to prevent theft. It activates with a cell phone app, a key card, or an attached kiosk. The “bicycle parking space” uniquely accommodates approximately 90% of the bicycles in the market today. Each device connects online to show available parking. One car parking space fits 6 devices, parking 12 bicycles. Designed for low energy consumption, it can run off solar power.
Bicycle theft is a largely looked over problem in Atlanta. It is a $350 Million annual problem in the United States. The equivalent of a $400 bicycle is stolen every 30 seconds. It takes less than 30 seconds to break through most commercial bike locks, with how-to videos on Youtube. Over 1 Million bicycles are stolen each year. ParkENT Cycles wants to deploy into Atlanta’s college campuses, business properties, along bike trails, and in parks.
The Steps
Finish the demo model. Display demo model to various locations around Atlanta. Build website. Develop a commercial phone app to interact with devices.
Why we‘re doing it
The idea was born from when a college friend had two road bicycles stolen in a week. The cut bike lock chain was left on the ground with a sticky note attached. The note had a smiley face drawn on it and "THANKS" written across the bottom.
Bike Theft is a large issue. A $400 bicycle is stolen every 30 seconds. It takes less than 30 seconds to break through most commercial bike locks, with how-to videos on Youtube.
Bike lanes and paths are currently being built around the Atlanta area.
