About the project
“The strength of public schools is enabled by the strength of their leadership: the staff, administrators, and school board.”
School Board School (SBS) is the premier training and support organization for community members who want to improve the future of public education in the Greater Cincinnati region. SBS began as a seed in former CPS Board Member Elisa Hoffman’s mind and is now a launching pad for residents who seek to impact their local school district positively, but didn’t know where to start.
In its second year of operation, SBS Fellows are tackling the many issues facing public educators, such as increasing student voice in decision-making, exploring disparities in discipline, and supporting the development of culturally responsive curriculum, among other opportunity areas.
School Board School Fellows are all working to achieve the same goal: ensure equity in public education by gaining the knowledge necessary to be an effective board member or an education advocate who advances the public school system from outside the boardroom.
The Steps
Your contribution will provide essential programming like expert facilitators, session logistics, curriculum, program evaluation, and books and materials for participants.
Why we‘re doing it
“I am a proud product of public schools–from kindergarten through graduate school. CPS schools [and/or public schools] are not just for high-achieving students, they are also a great place for students with diverse needs like my brother. My brother, who is on the autism spectrum, has achieved great success despite many hurdles as a student. Today he lives as a testament to the power of public schools to help transform any child today into a future leader of tomorrow!” - School Board School Fellow, 2019
We are a cohort of thinkers, doers, and believers from varied backgrounds united by one common mission: to advance our local public schools. We wake up each day concerned about the thousands of students who rely on our local public schools. Many of us are parents who send our children to public schools. Many of us are the products of public schools ourselves. We recognize the necessity of public schools in our society; their unique ability to serve diverse students and their families in a multitude of ways. We care about the state of public schools broadly and here in the Greater Cincinnati region.
