About the project

We are investing in our young people's education and future success. Right now their opportunity looks bleak. We are launching a STEM program at Pittsburgh Manchester Pre-K through 8th to teach robotics, agriculture, chemistry, water reclamation and waste water management, nutrition, and other skills taught by an expert STEM educator: science, technology, engineering, mathematics.

The students will also be brought on career exposure field trips with local universities and professionals so that they see more possibilities for their careers, applying what they are learning in this STEM program.

The program also will build a project that the community will appreciate and that our students can take great pride in. Parents will have a pathway to be involved in this student project in our school.

We are raising funds to teach this program and bring the students on career exploration field trips.

The Steps

We've been developing this for a few years. A 3-D printer is printing the parts for the students' project.

During the first quarter of this next school year the students will participate in this STEM program and build the green wall installation while learning science and education.

We're building a dynamic relationship with the Pennsylvania education core standards. In the future this program will be credentialled, this is the first year to launch this community program rallying around our school.

Why we‘re doing it

We're taking a huge property that is now blight and giving our children a way to turn this into something positive that benefits the entire community at large, while opening up their career possibilities.
