About the project
Fund a Feasibilty study to BUILD AN AQUATICS CENTER IN SAUGERTIES FOR YEAR-ROUND ENJOYMENT:
LEARN TO SWIM - AQUATIC AEROBICS - COMPETITIVE SWIMMING - WATER THERAPY - NON-SWIMMER PROGRAMS, - WATER SPORTS - AND MORE…
This is an opportunity to enhance our already wonderful Hudson Valley town. The Town Board of Saugerties recognizes the potential health and economic benefits a year-round aquatic facility could generate. They have agreed to site and operate a facility after funding is obtained.
*ALL FUNDS MUST BE RAISED PRIVATELY (no taxes will be raised) - This means us, Saugerties and surrounding area residents and businesses. If every Saugerties resident donated just $2 we would have enough for the initial study!
A professional feasibility study will help verify that an aquatic center will be economically sustainable and (hopefully) profitable. We plan to engage the highly regarded aquatics consulting firm, Cousilman-Hunsaker, to work with us on the study. Our goal for the budget is based on their proposal (plus IOBY fees).
The Steps
THE FEASIBILITY STUDY HAS THREE PHASES:
Phase One: Needs Analysis
Phase Two: Conceptual Plan
Phase Three: Revenue Expense/Analysis
Each phase will include a site visit from the Consulting Firm, and the overall process will span up to 6 months.
WE WILL SEEK AS MUCH COMMUNITY INPUT AS POSSIBLE FOR THE STUDY!
OUR GOALS:
*Raise enough funds for the study by February 2018.
*Contract with consulting firm by March 2018
*Complete the study by September 2018
A completed feasibility study is necessary for a formal business plan, which we will be the next phase of our effort (if the study proves "feasible"!). A business plan will be the gateway for capital fundraising to begin.
Why we‘re doing it
Residents in and around Saugerties are committed to the goal of having a financially profitable, multi-use aquatics facility.
Not only will this facility insure that all of our children have the to opportunity to learn how to swim, it will offer a myriad of health and wellness programs suitable for our entire community. We hope to develop a multi-pool design in order to accommodate simultaneous activities for non-swimmers, athletes, the elderly, and those with disabilities. State-of-the-art technologies will be preferred in every aspect of the design, lowering both short- and long-term operating costs.
It is our firm belief that an aquatics center will draw a large number of users from neighboring communities while also attracting more families to make Saugerties their home, thus being a catalyst for economic growth. IF WE BUILD IT, THEY WILL SWIM!
