Santa Cruz Fashion Week is a community led fashion event hosted by Da'John DeWitt (founder of DeWitt Productions) in partnership with African Roots Social Club with the mission to bring all ages, and all ethnicities together in harmony and celebration.
We created Santa Cruz Fashion Week because we saw a need in a post-pandemic community. I wanted to encourage folks to come together without fear, and with this dream I feel inspired to take that leap of faith all dreamers must take.
The space we are proposing to host the fashion show is in a low income community where many artists are either house-less and/or an barely afford to live. This show will help raise money for them and transform the space by turning it into a hub where bipoc and queer artists can be part of a safe - space and community. We believe self - expression is a very important part for one's mental health and a balanced life.
Santa Cruz Fashion Week aims to encourage self love, transformation and community.
The space will be held in a vacant lot at the tannery!
My team, once we have cash in hand, will inundate Santa Cruz and abroad with news of our project.
We will have model casting calls for upcoming and aspiring models who want to have the opportunity to become a fashion model (including bipoc, disabled and lgbtq+ia).
We will pay all impeding fees including; Venue, backstage crew, Videographer team, photographer team ets..) and use remaining money to promote.
Santa Cruz, Ca., though beautiful, is rife with homelessness. Many of the house-less are bipoc & queer artists who are alone, with no community or resources.
SCFW (Santa Cruz Fashion Week) will highlight these issues while also introducing a safe community to hundreds of artists who are in need of a safe space and ways to create income within the arts.
