Thank you!

the project

Honestly, this project scares me. The cause -- City Parks Foundation and Partnerships for Parks -- they don't scare me. I'm incredibly proud to work at this organization where we support an amazing community of NYC parks and open space volunteer leaders and projects, and where we create and offer free arts, education, sports, and community building programs for over 400 thousand New Yorkers every year.

Running my first marathon scares me. It really, honestly scares me. I am committed to doing something that I truly don't know if I can accomplish. I have just over 4 weeks left of training time, 2 weeks really, because you have to rest your legs up the final two weeks before the big event. I'm up to 18 miles in my training runs -- the most I've ever run in my whole life!!! BUT, on my last two big runs, when I've set out to run 20 miles, I DID NOT FINISH THOSE RUNS. :(

I've done triathlons, and Tough Mudder endurance events, and long bike rides, but nothing compares to this, at least for me. I am up against my absolute limits as to what my body can and can't do. In my heart, I don't know if I will make it through all 26 miles of running for this event. But I am going to give it everything I have trying.

(UPDATE!!! I made it through 23 MILES this weekend! Longest run of my life! I finally believe that I AM GOING TO COMPLETE this marathon in 2 weeks!)

Your support in this effort will mean the world to me, and it will make NYC parks a better place for local community members throughout all 5 boroughs. Join me on one of the hardest things I will ever do. Please donate today to support my run and to make our vision come true:

Thriving parks mean thriving communities!

the steps

At City Parks Foundation, we concentrate on helping New Yorkers BUILD community involvement in parks, to PLAY and LEARN in our parks, and to experience ART and SHOWS for free in our parks...

We are dedicated to invigorating and transforming parks into dynamic, vibrant centers of urban life through sports, arts, community building and education programs for all New Yorkers. Our programs — located in more than 350 parks, recreation centers and public schools across New York City — reach 425,000 people each year. Our ethos is simple:

Thriving parks mean thriving communities!

why we're doing it

There are currently over 2,000 parks in New York City. These places are our backyards, where we connect, play, and celebrate life’s moments. When people come together to care for these spaces, they thrive. And when parks thrive, neighborhoods thrive. Parks are spaces where community members and decision makers can work together to create their city.

By developing occasional volunteers into community leaders, we build long-term investment in public space and strengthen the social fabric of our neighborhoods. We equip people, organizations and government with the skills and tools they need to transform these spaces into dynamic community assets.
