Roundhouse Revival
A community party for the Mid-South Coliseum
Leader
Roy Barnes
Location
966 Early Maxwell Boulevard Memphis, TN 38104
About the project
The Mid-South Coliseum, a gorgeous and robust mid-century modern arena in the center of Memphis, has sat empty for nearly 10 years. Despite a storied past that includes Elvis, James Brown, Jerry Lawler, Andy Kaufman, Larry Finch, Ronnie Robinson and the Beatles, despite a beautiful profile, and despite a boundless future, it's at risk of being demolished.
Roundhouse Revival will previtalize -- celebrate -- the great building with a daylong community party. Roundhouse Revival will celebrate the building with music, basketball and wrestling, and it will spark the imagination of the citizens of Memphis to the future possibilities of this historic and beautiful building.
The Steps
We will have a daylong party at the Coliseum on Saturday, May 23, that introduces (and re-introduces) Memphians to this awesome building.
Why we‘re doing it
We want to create and recreate community connections to this building that will save it from further neglect and possible demolition and set the stage for reuse.
