the project

We have built a community garden in Brooklyn and we aim to use it as a vehicle to deepen our connection to each other and to the land. We will do this through senior led workshops on native farming practices. Exploring the role of the land in their cultural identity. We will also strengthen our connection to each other through youth led arts programming. Providing the youth with a space to express themselves and make their voices heard as part of the community.

People from all ages and ethnic backgrounds will be sharing and learning from one another. The result will be a deeper respect and love for the earth and our neighbors.

why we're doing it

This project will address a social rift in our community by providing a safe space for open conversation. This neighborhood has 1 in 3 people below the poverty line making food access a dire issue. We will give away healthy locally grown food for free with dignity. Our neighborhood has unchecked over development making our green space an oasis. We aim to not only conserve our green space but we take practices to lead the way on environmental conservation. We use rain water catch barrels, plant flowers that bring back bees, compost to reduce waste and strengthen the soil and we are pushing towards solar power.
