About the project
Every child deserves a great education!
Imagine a vibrant school community where learning is joyful, students tackle authentic problems and design solutions to make their world a better place.
At Lotus Academy of Learning, we want to change the narrative of public education. Our curriculum will be holistic, well-rounded and rooted in research-based best practices. Lotus Academy will span grade Preschool (age three) to grade 12, starting with Phase One (Preschool to grade three). During this phase, students will participate in multi-age core lab classrooms where they move at a pace that works best for them and progress as they reach set benchmarks. Phase Two is the addition of a new grade each year until we reach grade 12. Our ultimate vision is to graduate students who are humble scholars, empathetic leaders, and change agents, poised to be stewards of their communities and their world.
Funds raised in this campaign will help with organizational startup costs.
The Steps
The challenge: Building an organization from the ground up. Our initial fundraising efforts on ioby will support:
-
Non-Profit Formation: Your support will enable Lotus Academy of Learning to be established as a not-for-profit, 501c(3) corporation.
-
Administration: Our development team needs support with administrative start-up costs, including supplies, office equipment, and telecommunications.
-
Technical Support and Professional Services: Our development team needs an array of technical support and professional services to develop and sustain the organization. This includes legal, accounting, technology and other professional and technical services.
-
Branding and Public Relations: Our development team needs support to communicate our vision and mission, through the creation of a website, outreach in the community, with local legislators and across social media platforms.
-
Community Engagement: Our development team needs support to implement our community engagement plan -- focus groups with families to learn more about their educational needs and dreams for their children.
Why we‘re doing it
At Lotus Academy of learning, we believe the past is intimately connected to the present. Chronic systemic gaps persist between people of color and their white peers. Gaps exist in wealth, income, academic achievement and long-term health outcomes. These inequities are the legacy of more than a century of racism and prejudice. Education is one of the key drivers in addressing these inequities. With your help, we can change the narrative and create a new paradigm for public education.
