the project
Red Hook Plays is a grassroots organization started by local parents who want our play facilities to be supportive, enriching and accessible to children of all ages and abilities. Community playgrounds are important to foster social skills, promote physical activity, and to build imagination.
the steps
Once all of the funds are raised we can order playground equipment and set plans to install it. This will be a supervised community build project. When the time comes we will need lots of volunteers of all abilities to help. It is expected to take two weekends to build.
why we're doing it
Red Hook is a family-oriented town with a small but well-regarded school district. We pride ourselves on being a place that welcomes people of all ages and abilities. Our current municipal rec park playground does not meet expressed needs in our community. The playground has never had a complete renovation and many of the pieces of equipment are 30 years old. Red Hook Plays aims to change this by providing a playground enviroment that is safe, fosters social skills and imagination of children of all ages and abilities.
budget
Disbursed Budget 3.20.19:
The total cost of equipment and installation of the renewed Red Hook playground will be $240,000. The town of Red Hook initially committed $200,000 toward the total cost of the project. Red Hook Plays is aiming to raise the remaining $40,000. As of March 2018 we have raised $18,087 through direct donation to Red Hook Plays. An additional $10,000 was donated directly to the town for a total of $28,087. $4,379 from Ioby brings us to $32,466. The Town of Red Hook has confirmed it will cover the remainder and we can move forward even though we have not met 100% of our goal. They purchased the playground equipment this past winter and it is scheduled to be installed the first two weekends in May 2019.
