the project

“ReadThaRoom” is an intimate Neo/indie soul living room show produced by Jayda Irene accompanied by a live band, host, film directors, set, makeup, and clothing artists.

Every artists is allocated a 15 minute concert session and interview with RTR host, each set will be tailored to a theme that will be brought to life by the production team. We will conclude each RTR session with a release party/ network mixer to create a supportive community of artists in Northern California. The goal is to create an influential intergenerational environment that will help bring wisdom to artists who seek it and bring value to connecting the creative community by focusing on networking opportunities.

This production will :

  • Challenge artists to dig deeper to develop within their artistry and showcase their creative works.
  •  Provide full artist experience leading to full performance  (ie. Makeup, Set design, costume/styling,etc.)
  • Offer creative collaboration, on set entertainment experience, stage direction and networking leads.
  • Provide an opportunity for career exposure, collaboration, and experience with live band and production setting

The day of the show each artist will perform a 15  min musical set (max) and 10 min interview (max).

Prior to filming each artists receives:

  • 1 on 1 collaboration with Jayda (5-8 hrs per artists, per session) where we discuss goals, set plans into motion, and also how to take care of mind, body and spirit while working in their profession.
  • Personal set design, costume/styling, make up and hair
  •  Recorded video of their performance and interview
  • 2 Rehearsal sessions with band at Balance Dance Project
  • Support from community members
  • Professional experience with recorded shows from a collaborative team

Short term goal for ALL collaborators:

Bridge the Norcal community together byway of collaboration, educating, and enriching the lives of artists, musicians, producers, directors, hosts and more. The project will conclude with a Release Party/ Networking Mixer to encourage the participants, community members, and artists to connect and collaborate on various other projects. (Eventually leading to a nationwide community for collaboration)

Long term goal for YOUTH:

The goal of ReadThaRoom is to be able to equip young emerging artists to be prepared for success. Whether they are in front of the camera or behind the scenes, with ReadThaRoom, they will become equipped with the necessary skill to complete a full on production (pre & post) and conclude with an event. ReadThaRoom will aim to develop the next generation of producers, directors, set/hair/makeup designers, musicians, singers, dancers, event coordinators, videographers and editors.

why we're doing it

As an Oakland native and professional dancer/creative, I know how challenging it is to have a platform to engage with within the music, beauty, and media industry that can also provide the necessary resources, tools, and experience to get you where you want to be. As a person from an underserved and under resourced community, I fully understand what it feels like to lack resources and either begin to doubt your dream or get involved with non beneficial activities  due to limiting beliefs. With my experiences I wanted to change the narrative for artists all over the states starting here in Northern California, Sacramento.

I  am committed to helping expand the community of creatives that will branch out and build partnerships from Sacramento to the Bay Area and eventually all over California and beyond.

The team and I are also intentional with understanding that it is our duty to give back and be an example for the youth. The goal is to find youth who are  interested in gaining skills such as directing, project development, film and editing, playing as a member of a band, event coordinating, or set design.

Milestone #1: Build a team of young entrepreneurs and artists that can work with artists to help them gain the professional experience of having a set created, designed, and produced.

Milestone #2: Provide professional experiences for all members involved to add to the portfolio and gain experience in a production setting.

Milestone #3: Create a larger network by bridging Sacramento artists with local community artists, as well as Bay Area and California artists. Expanding to nationwide community building by researching areas of need and teaching them what opportunities are available to them.

Deliverable #1: Working with ReadThaRoom Team and Jayda (1 on 1)  to specifically and intentionally create a complete satisfactory concept and story line prior to performance.

Deliverable #2: : Increase all participants’ professionalism, work ethic, and experience level.

Deliverable #3: Educating and enriching the lives of the youth/adults by equipping them with the necessary tools such as team building, leadership, entrepreneurship, and artistry. Youth will graduate from ReadThaRoom gaining a new skill either public speaking/hosting, instruments, BTS, and or set design/lighting/filming
