About the project
We are trying to make Bike San Antonio a sustainable organization by raising enough funds to pay for staff. To do that we need to apply for grants and to do that we need 501c3 status.
San Antonio needs a dedicated bike advocacy organization to share the needs of cyclists to representatives and city officials.
The Steps
We already have a few lawyers in mind to help us apply. We need to collect necessary information and apply.
Why we‘re doing it
Increasing cycling will reduce many problems San Antonio experiences.
Over the next 15 years, San Antonio is expected to grow by 28% and add 606,325 people. Unless we invest in more bike/ped/transit infrastructure, traffic will become a big problem.
San Antonio has the worst walk and bike scores among cities with 1 million or more people. It has a walk score of 37.6 and a bike score of 42 out of 100.
San Antonio has the 6th highest percentage of overweight adults in the US — a staggering 38.5%. Unfortunately, obesity in SA is going up.
San Antonio is currently in violation of EPA air quality standards.
