the project

Since its founding in 1994, East End Community Thrift has served as a pillar of the Garfield community. We are an all-volunteer run thrift shop. Volunteers this summer decided together to keep Thrifty open due to the impacts of COVID and are stepping up into their leadership to be of service to families during this time.

Unfortunately, our beloved thrift store's roof sprang a leak, and is in need of repair!

As school begins and the need for winter coats and clothing grows, it is imperative that Thrifty stay open and functioning in order to provide the Pittsburgh community with the winter clothing to keep everyone warm. These urgent roof repairs will keep rainstorms from disrupting our electrical systems and the heartwarming, creative energy of our volunteers. That's why we need your help to fund roof repairs to keep Thrifty running.

Especially with the economic impacts of COVID-19, Thrifty and our volunteers are needed now more than ever to serve our neighbors.

After over 25 years, Thrifty remains rooted in the history and heartbeat of our Garfield neighborhood. In an everchanging strip, Thrifty welcomes all people with grace and care. Beyond offering stylish choices at truly affordable prices, Thrifty brings people together with joy and creativity.

Thrifty also works with local shelters and social service agencies to distribute vouchers people can redeem for free clothing and household items. In 2019, customers redeemed over $10,000 of these vouchers for items they chose themselves.

the steps

1.Raise the roof money!

2. Get the roof fixed!

3. Stay excellently Thrifty!

why we're doing it

East End Community Thrift has provided gently used, stylish, and affordable clothing to the Garfield neighborhood in Pittsburgh for over 25 years now. Shawna, Lorraine, and the rest of the beloved Thrifty team work tirelessly to make Thrifty the warm, safe space that it is, taking care to make it a welcome place for all. While it offers stylish clothing, Thrifty also offers vouchers to members of the Pittsburgh community, often redeeming $10,000 of vouchers a year and providing countless families with back-to-school clothes. As school begins and the need for winter coats and clothing grows, it is imperative that Thrifty stay open and functioning in order to provide the Pittsburgh community with the winter clothing to keep everyone warm.
