About the project
GreenFeen is an educational consulting firm, using Hip Hop and Environmental Sustainability to create culturally responsive content that supports curriculum development and engagement. We have set up after school programs with teaching artists, hosted garden/school events, facilitated workshops at conferences, engaged in Environmental Justice/Waste Equity advocacy and built creative brand awareness for clients to name a few.
Now, we will use pop up events to generate content that inspires our next song, video, and book to help normalize organics diversion while creating entertaining visuals that appeal to different viewers.
We will pop up at 5 different sites across the city to do the following:
Garden/Library/Park Book Reading Event, 2 Street Interviews, Local Event/Children’s Birthday party!
The data we gather here will inform our next story book, song, and video.

Why we‘re doing it
As an Environmental Justice community, The South Bronx handles over 30% of the city’s waste and has the highest rates of asthma which is a result of environmental racism. 30% of that trash is organic waste which is wet, smelly, and a buffet for vermin. However, this is actually a valuable resource for the soil and we can make compost or renewable energy from this separated material. What is compost? Come to one of our pop up events to learn more as we want to inspire the next generation of black and brown students to pursue STEAM related fields!
Separating organics has the potential to decrease the rodent population, connect families back to the soil, beautify neighborhoods, AND create green jobs. As the borough with the most green space, the time is now to participate in moving towards a more sustainable city and we can only do it together. Hip Hop is a universal tool used to teach, inspire, and unite therefore we will engage the elements as Bronx Natives! The Bronx isn’t Burning, we are BLOOMING and we believe that our shared creativity will inspire the next generation of Environmental Justice advocates and waste warriors!
