Project Green Space
Project Green Space will host multiple community cleanups and educate the community about healthy choices through a community garden. We will plant fruits and vegetables that will be available to the community.

About the project
Project Green Space will rehabilitate an empty lot and work with impoverished communities to maintain a stable and healthy lifestyle. In an attempt to revitalize neighborhoods, we will continue to work with many different origanizations to tackle quality of life issues pertaining to food deserts in Niagara Falls. We will raise the awareness of community members surrounding food deserts and host seminars to teach healthy eating habits and different ways to form a stable community. This will include education on gardening, recycling, bring new life to empty lots, fields, street corners, and buildings.
My project will not only bring food to our community, it will build community relations. Eventually, the project hopes to become self-sufficient by selling produce from the community garden to collect funds to reinvest in more neighborhood projects.
The Steps
We have secured a prospective lot through Greenprint Niagara for a community garden. Through Create a Healthier Niagara Falls and ioby resources, we will build and plant a community garden with local volunteers. We would like to add benches and other things to beautify the space. Once the garden is built, we will also use the space to host educational classes and events for youth. These events will be ongoing and available to the Niagara Falls community.
Why we‘re doing it
Project Green Space addresses both issues of blight in the built environment and food access issues. We will do this by rebuilding and beautifying a vacant space, and by providing and educating people with healthy food.
