the project

We have served hundreds of children in the Cleveland area with skate camps and pop-up events around the Cleveland area and are looking to increase our outreach to Cleveland's neighborhoods. Rollin Buckeyez Foundation has held pop-up events at the Ingenuity Fest, Open Streets Cleveland (formerly Ciclevia), Halloran Skate park, Thurgood Marshall, Edgewater fest and other locations.

At RollinBuckeyez pop up rollerskating events, neighborhood children learn the basics of rollerskating, are provided with protective helmets, knee pads, and wrist guards. Our music and skating drills are designed to help kids to exercise, relieve stress, and have fun. RollinBuckeyez goal is 300 students annually, after school and recreational programming.

As well a multitude of pop-up rollerskating in at local event and festivals in 2020/2021. RollinBuckeyez will choose neighborhood based upon community support, requests, and funding. In order to provide a quality skating experience, we plan to purchase a portable 40 ft. by 60 ft. smooth wood floor that residents can skate on. We are raising money during this crowdfunding campaign buy the floor for the community.

the steps

1. Purchase 2,400 square feet of flooring hardware and peripheral supporting wood for recreational roller skating use.

2. Canvas Cleveland neighborhoods for signatures and support for a neighborhood for a neighborhood pop-up roller skating rink.

3. Announce 2020/2021 Pop-up locations.

4. Conduct 2020/2021   Spring and Summer events.

why we're doing it

One in every three children in the U.S. are identified as overweight or obese. Many children dont have access to healthy and nutritious foods and lack opportunities to do physical exercise. With many schools cutting or limiting physical education requirements and access to other physical activities outside of organized sports, the options for children to be physically active can be constrained by geography and income. The Better Health Partnership’s “First Children’s Health Community Report – Fall 2017,” which analyzed the health of children in Northeast Ohio, also shows that the areas with the highest childhood obesity rates are the same neighborhoods that have the lowest incomes. The study makes clear that where you live has a direct impact on your health.

RollinBuckeyed Foundation's roller skating programs have been developed to achieve the goal is introducing physical fitness and discipline into childrens' lives. Roller skating is a fun and safe activity for children of all fitness levels. It works all of the major muscle groups and can burn up to 300-600 calories per hour. It is also safer than many other activities that children engage in, including basketball, football and cycling. It also causes less stress on the joints than running. Plus, skating is a way to have fun, listen to music and meet new people while also burning calories.
