About the project

Helena, with 400 miles of bike paths in the area and being designated as a Silver level ride center by the International Mountain Biking Association is a biking enthusiast dream. The Helena business district is the beginning and ending point of the numerous trails that follow the mountains surrounding Helena.

We anticipate purchasing 4 portable bike racks to utilize throughout the Historic District for various events and at varying times and locations:

  • We anticipate hosting the first Roll and Stroll in May 2017, this event will encourage residents to bike or walk to work, and participants will be given incentives to do so. For this event, the pop up bike racks will be placed near centers of employment throughout the district.
  • We partner with other entities to host Ales for Trails, a biking and brew pub event that raises funds for nonprofit organizations. For this event the pop up racks will be placed near the venues.
  • Our Five Alive Music event is every Wednesday from June - August, the venue changes weekly and we would place the pop up bike racks at the event location weekly.
  • We anticipate utilizing the racks for Spring shuttle Fest a week where bike riders are provided free transportation to various trail heads to initiate rides.

The Steps

Order the racks, and have them delivered by the kick off event on May 20, 2017.

Why we‘re doing it

Helena Montana’s downtown is uniquely situated to over 80 miles of singletrack bike paths, over 400 miles of bike tracks in the area and is an International Mountain Bicycle Association (IMBA) Silver Level ride center. Bike paths begin and end in our Historic Registry listed central business district. We want to provide more options in various places and events for bike parking.
