The Pico Aliso Neighborhood Project, Phase II

We are pleased to announce that with a $10,000 grant from the City of Los Angeles Great Streets initiative, we have exceeded our project goal and are ready to install our temporary safety installation at 4^th Street and Gless in Boyle Heights!

Estamos agradecidos en anunciar que con la beca de $10,000 dólares que recibimos por la iniciativa de Great Streets por la Ciudad de Los Ángeles, hemos sobrepasado nuestra meta de recaudar fondos y estamos listos para instalar nuestra instalación de seguridad temporal para la calle 4 y Gless en Boyle Heights!

If you’ve participated in our grassroots campaign to make the streets of Boyle Heights safer from the beginning, THANK YOU!  And if this is the first time you are hearing about the project, now is a great time to get to know us and our work!

¡Si usted ha participado en nuestra campaña comunitaria en hacer nuestras calles en Boyle Heights más seguras desde el principio, GRACIAS! ¡Y si esta es la primera vez que aprende de nuestro proyecto, ahora es un buen tiempo de conocernos y nuestro trabajo!

On Saturday, May 6th, we are going to make the Pico Aliso Neighborhood Project’s temporary safety installation a reality.  We will be holding a family friendly event at 4th Street and Gless Street, where YOU can join local families in the following:

• Installing the long-awaited TEMPORARY safety installation that will turn the barely-visible crosswalk at 4^th and Gless into a HIGH-VISIBILTIY CROSSWALK!  
• Providing input on possible permanent improvements, BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH MORE WE CAN STILL DO … TOGETHER!

El Sabado, 6 de Mayo, se realizara nuestra instalación de seguridad temporal del Proyecto de la Comunidad de Pico Aliso una realidad. Vamos a tener un evento familiar por la calle 4 y la calle Gless, donde USTEDES pueden reunirse con otras familias locales en lo siguiente:

• ¡Apoyar en instalar la instalación de seguridad TEMPORAL tan anticipada que convertirá el crucero que es casi-visible por la calle 4 y Gless en un CRUCERO DE ALTA-VISIBILIDAD!
• ! Compartir su opinión sobre mejoramientos que podrán ser permanentes, POR QUE HAY MUCHO MAS QUE PODEMOS HACER…JUNTOS!

This opportunity will allow us to assess our community-driven street improvements.  We will also offer activities for the ENTIRE family, such as face painting, art workshop stations, and refreshments.

Community leaders from the Comunidad en Movimiento initiative that has led the project and local families have worked together to identify long-solutions to the traffic congestion that makes pedestrians unsafe, and this event will give the community a voice in the plans to make these improvements permanent, so that pedestrians who use this crosswalk will be able to do so SAFELY for years to come.

Esta oportunidad nos permitirá en asesorar nuestras estrategias de mejorar nuestras calles dirigidas por la comunidad. También ofreceremos actividades para TODA la familia, como pintar caras, estaciones de talleres de arte, y refrescos.

¡Los líderes de la comunidad por la iniciativa de Comunidad en Movimiento han lidiado estos esfuerzos con las familias locales en trabajar juntos para identificar soluciones de largo plazo sobre los problemas de congestión de tráfico que hacen nuestras calles inseguras, y este evento también permitirá en construir una plataforma o voz para la comunidad en la planificación de hacer estos mejoramientos permanentes, para que las personas quien usan el crucero para cruzar lo pueden seguir en haciendo SEGURAMENTE para años adelante.

May 2017 - June 2017: Implementation of the temporary safety installation at 4th and Gless

June 2017 - December 2017: Collaboration with community residents and the City of Los Angeles to plan/implement a PERMANENT saftey installation at 4th and Gless

According to the U.S. Census:

• 12% fewer people drive alone to work from Boyle Heights than from LA City
• 8% more people use public transportation to get to work from Boyle Heights than from LA City
• 3% more people walk to work from Boyle Heights than from LA City. 

You will often find Boyle Heights residents getting where they need to go on foot or using public transportation.  And when you consider that Boyle Heights is surrounded by six freeways, with busy entrances and exits to those freeways being used by people plowing in and out of Downtown on their way to work, our residents are vulnerable indeed.

But through CEM’s Pico Aliso Neighborhood Project, we can make Boyle Heights safer… together! 

De acuerdo al censo de U.S.:

• Un 12 % menos de personas manejan solos a trabajar en Boyle Heights en comparación a la Ciudad LA 
• Un 8 % más de personas usan el transporte público para ir a trabajar en Boyle Heights en comparación a la Ciudad LA
• Un 3 % más de personas caminan a su trabajo en Boyle Heights en comparación a la Ciudad LA.

Encontrará con frecuencia residentes de Boyle Heights tratando de ir a donde necesitan ya sea a pie o usando el transporte público. Y si usted considera el hecho que Boyle Heights está rodeado por seis carreteras, con entradas y salidas muy transitadas por la gente constantemente que entran y salen del centro de la ciudad para ir a trabajar, nuestros residentes de encuentran vulnerables entre todo esto.

¡Pero a través del trabajo del Proyecto del Vecindario de CEM, podemos hacer Boyle Heights más seguro… juntos!
