About the project
Through my partnership with GTECH as a ReClaim Northside Ambassador, I am facilitating a project that will transform a vacant and blighted City-owned lot into a beautiful community asset that can be used for neighborhood meetings, small gatherings and events, and an activity space for the neighborhood children (site is located at the corner of Holyoke and Drum Streets). I have taken the appropriate steps to gain access to the site and approval from the various City departments. This is a great step towards improving the health of, and cohesion throughout, our neighborhood.
The Steps
We have gained support from the neighborhood partners; engaged volunteer groups and residents in the neighborhood and surrounding communities; and developed a timeline of events to turn this wonderful idea into a reality.
Volunteer Days:
5/17 (12-3pm)
6/7 (12-3pm)
6/14 (2-4 pm)
6/28 (2-4 pm)
Other dates -TBA
Why we‘re doing it
This project is not only an opportunity to transform blight into something useful, it is also an opportunity to introduce neighbors to one another, engage members of the community, build cohesion and instill pride, and ultimately to create a sustainable neighborhood asset. Once the project is completed, we hope to add a gateway sign at the corner, with which WE (all the members of this community) can say in a collective voice, “Welcome To Our Neighborhood - Perry Hilltop/Perry South”
