the project
Perkins to Greenline Access is a grassroots project that began in 2010 to construct safe, convenient access to the Shelby Farms Greenline. Easier access to trails translates into a healthier community and we are fundraising to provide a new trail that will connect a community to nature, healthy recreation and each other.
The Perkins to Greenline Access Project will take the $170,000.00 raised and transform an eroding slope into a trail, stairs and ADA-accessible ramp that leads to the Shelby Farms Greenline.
This project not only connects people to a trail; it connects people to their neighbors, to school, work, restaurants, the city's cycling infrastructure and more. Join us in creating a more livable Memphis.
the steps
We are under construction! Please be mindful of this area and find another route to the Shelby Farms Greenline while Perkins Access is under construction.
Shelby Farms Park Conservancy will maintain this trail once it is built this Spring. Any donations to help support the maintenance of Perkins Access trail can be made directly to our non-profit which runs off of generous private donations like yours! why we're doing it
Neighbors East of Perkins Rd. do not have access to the Shelby Farms Greenline until Podesta, a gap of 2.5 miles. This leaves hundreds of residents disconnected from the core greenway trail that connects Midtown Memphis to Shelby Farms Park and soon, to Cordova, TN. The Greenline offers opportunity: a commuting route to school or work, access to grocery stores and unique restaurants, a safe route for exercise and connecting with your neighbors. This project will expand opportunity to residents in the Avon Neighborhood, residents North of Summer Ave, and hundred of others.
The Perkins to Greenline project provides safe access to the Shelby Farms Greenline at Perkins Rd. and Princeton Rd.
Neighbors have advocated for access since the Greenline was built in 2010. While plans stalled, the community has worn a pathway to the Greenline down a dangerous slope. We are excited to remedy erosion and provide a safe, ADA-accessible trail to the Greenline and open up new connections for all ages and abilities within the community.
