Parks & People 30th Anniversary Volunteer Day

30 Years and Still Planting.

Leader

Valerie Rupp

About the project

On National Trails Day, Parks & People will celebrate its 30th anniversary by cleaning and beautifying the Gywnns Falls Trail. Volunteers will clean the stream and improve the riparian buffer with native plants in Winans Meadow (Gwynns Falls Trail, Trailhead 2).

Following the volunteer activity, a BBQ picnic honoring Parks & People will take place in the Ben Cardin Pavilion with musical entertainment and fun, hands-on environmental education offerings. The event will be open to the public.

The Steps

Between now and June 7th we will seek volunteers and financial contributions to support the activity. Contributions will support supplies, materials and coordination of the volunteer activity.

Parks & People will handle all logistics for the volunteer activity. Volunteers simply need to show up ready to get to work. Whether you can support the activity with time, a financial donation or both, your support will contribute to our ongoing efforts that help keep the Gwynns Falls Trail an oasis of nature and beauty in Baltimore City.

Why we‘re doing it

The Gwynns Falls Trail weaves through one of the largest urban forests on the East Coast, several parks, city neighborhoods and a portion Baltimore's waterfront. The 15 mile long historic trail runs along a stream that empties into the Middle Branch of the Baltimore Harbor. Regular clean-up and riparian plantings help to reduce trash and pollutants entering the Harbor while keeping one of Baltimore's environmental treasures beautiful for use by residents and tourists. Parks & People was active in the planning, design and fundraising for the trail and continues to help to maintain and attract new visitors to the trail. The event is a wonderful way for those who love nature and have been touched by Parks & People's work to give back and help us work toward our One Park vision for a healthy Baltimore with interconnected, vibrant green spaces where people live, work and play.
